Melbourne’s newest community a win for builders and residents
Innovation and world class design will be at the heart of Melbourne’s newest community after the Baillieu Government released details of the Werribee Employment Precinct master plan.
“Today’s plan shows a bold, ambitious vision to support the creation of new building jobs in Melbourne’s western suburbs,” said Master Builders’ Executive Director, Brian Welch.
“We are excited about the opportunities this announcement has the capacity to bring for our industry now, and in the years to come.
“Building new, integrated and sustainable communities like that proposed for East Werribee will generate significant economic and employment opportunities for Victorian builders.”
The 770 hectare site is around five times larger than the Hoddle grid and will provide 7200 new dwellings and workplaces for some 50,000 jobs.
“This announcement comes at a time when nearly one in five building jobs has been shed. Any project which creates more building and construction jobs is a welcome boost to our industry,
“Victorian builders will help deliver the world-leading, sustainable water infrastructure and a new lake at the heart of this community that is nearly twice the size of Ornamental Lake at Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens.
“A grand, tree-lined promenade will also be built as a hallmark of the new community, which will also be connected to the nearby freeway with the construction of a new full-diamond interchange.
“This development will show the world how Victoria can deliver new, world-leading innovative and sustainable communities.”
